Five tips to help you make your long-distance move as easy as possible.

Are you or someone you know thinking about making a move out of the area, perhaps across the country or somewhere across the globe? With remote work being so common these days, moving to your dream location isn’t as difficult as it once was. However, that doesn’t mean a long-distance move will be easy. The logistics, the travel, and the timeline can all be tricky to manage, and preparing for these potential challenges is key. Here are a few tips to keep in mind if you’re looking to make a move outside of Madison this year:

1. Map out a detailed timetable. Set milestones for each important step, such as booking your movers, scheduling cleaning services, and having everything packed up. This way, you can make the move as smooth as possible.

2. Calculate a realistic budget. Make a spreadsheet of all the expenses you can expect. Remember to include things like closing costs, packing supplies, movers, storage truck rentals, travel, etc.

3. Declutter and do a home inventory. Begin by decluttering your house and donating anything that you no longer need. Then, do an inventory of the items you are bringing with you. When you pack, label every box clearly so that you know exactly where to put it upon arrival in your new home.

4. Account for the comfort and safety of kids and pets. You’ll need to make arrangements for babysitters, road entertainment, or pet accommodations.

5. Let us connect you to the market that you’re moving into. When you need to find a great agent in your new area, let me and my team help you make that connection. With our Keller Williams partnership, we’re part of the largest real estate network in the world. We can do the heavy lifting of screening agents for you so that you get to work with one who shares the same values and commitments that we do.
